 media...Earthscapes at Grillroom

Mercury - 8 November 2002

An exhibition of paintings by four Durban artists curated by Deanne Donaldson can be seen at the Grillroom Cafe in the Gateway shopping centre in Umhlanga until December 23. Maggie Strachan, Denise Spalding, Crystelle Wilson and Lara Mellon exhibit work inspired by nature - such as the land, sea and sky.

Maggie Strachan has taught art at KZN high schools for close on 40 years and currently works and teaches from her home studio. Denise Spalding qualified as an art educationist at the Durban Technikon and now works in Britain. On a visit to Durban in July and August, she worked at Maggie's studio and produced her contribution to the Earthscapes exhibition. She has taken part in group exhibitions and had a solo exhibition at the NSA. Crystell Wilson has a BA degree in Fine Arts but worked as a journalist in Johannesburg and Durban before seriously taking up painting again two years ago. She has exhibited in Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp, Johannesburg and the KZN Midlands.

Lara Mellon is a member of Garret Artists and this is her first exhibition.
